Comprehensive Care for Adhesive Capsulitis – An Interdisciplinary Approach to Healing
What is Frozen Shoulder?
Frozen Shoulder (adhesive capsulitis), is an inflammatory condition causing severe pain and stiffness in the shoulder. Daily life can be significantly impacted without the proper treatment.
-
Phase 1: Freezing (Painful Stage)
0-6 months - Increasing pain, especially at night or when moving. Shoulder movement becomes harder over time.
Phase 2: Frozen (Stiff Stage)
6-12 months - Pain starts to lessen, but the shoulder is very stiff, making daily activities difficult.
Phase 3: Thawing (Recovery Stage)
12-24 months - Gradual return of movement and strength as the stiffness eases and pain improves.
Note: The above time frames can differ depending on severity, effectiveness of treatment, and the presence of underlying health issues.
-
Persistent Loss of Range of Motion: Without intervention, joint stiffness can become permanent, significantly limiting arm mobility.
Chronic Shoulder Pain: Ongoing inflammation and capsular tightness can cause long-term discomfort, particularly with movement or at night.
Muscle Weakness and Atrophy: Reduced use of the shoulder over time can lead to weakening and wasting of surrounding muscles.
Functional Impairment: Daily activities such as dressing, grooming, reaching overhead, or lifting objects may become difficult or impossible.
Joint Contracture: The shoulder capsule may thicken and tighten to the point that surgical intervention becomes necessary to restore function.
Prolonged Recovery Time: Delayed treatment can extend the duration of each phase, often leading to a total disease course exceeding 2 years.
Increased Risk of Compensatory Injuries: Over-reliance on the opposite arm or altered movement patterns to avoid pain, can lead to strain or injury in the neck, back, or opposite shoulder.

Release of Adhesions at Rotator Interval: Anterior shoulder adhesions are released to increase range of motion.
Capsular Distention: Releases adhesions inside and outside the joint to reduce stiffness and restore movement.
Customized Rehabilitation Plan: A personalized treatment plan will be provided by a rehabilitation specialist (Physiotherapist, Chiropractor, etc.) to improve range of motion and prevent recurrence.
